Work, Study or Migrate – There’s No Escaping IELTS

What is IELTS?

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a testing and grading system to assess the proficiency in English of non-native speakers who would need to use English in their education or work. There are two versions of this test – Academic and General Training. There are 48 test dates in a year, and more than 1000 test locations all over the world, including IELTS in Mumbai. There are four specific skills that IELTS assesses – reading, writing, listening and speaking. The test awards proficiency levels in 9 bands, starting from a non user (Band 1) to an expert (Band 9). The IELTS is a standard test whose scores are accepted all over the world for 3 purposes – immigration, study and work.

IELTS Requirements:

For immigration, countries like Canada, for example, look for Bands 7 and above for their skilled worker migration program. In education, universities prefer a Band of at least 6, and if the course is a postgraduate course, then they keep the cutoff at Band 7. The IELTS is such an important examination, that anyone taking the test wants to be sure to give it their best shot and get a good Band.

Problems With Self Study For IELTS:

This test is not part of school curriculum anywhere, and most schools do not provide for a separate IELTS Course in Mumbai where their students can equip themselves for the test. If the test is being used by a working professional looking to migrate, then there is even lesser chance of his workplace having any facilities for IELTS Classes in Andheri. Self-study, therefore seems like the only way out for anyone wishing to prepare for IELTS. This presents a few problems, like unavailability of training material, lack of peers to exchange study notes and exam tips with, difficulty in obtaining practice, and of course the problem of maintaining the discipline of sustained preparation.

What To Look For In A Training Institute:

That is the reason why many examinees prefer to join an IELTS Course – high chance of success is a distinct possibility then. There are several coaching institutes in Mumbai who provide training for various tests. Some examinees could actually get taken in by the tall claims of some institutes, while others might not know exactly what to look for to separate an average institute from a good one. Here are some of the things to look for in a good institute :

  • Vintage – An institute which has a good experience in providing training would have a much better view of evolving examination patters over the years, and could guide in the best manner possible.

  • Faculty – Not only the education and experience of the faculty, but also the certification received by them separately (from the British Council, for example) should be checked.

  • Adequate Practice – The institute for IELTS coaching should have adequate practice tests to help the examinees get a feel of the examination room environment.

  • Complete Information – A good institute would not only provide sound coaching, but also would be the one stop shop for all information related to the test, like IELTS test centres and test dates.

If you are planning to immigrate to a foreign country for work or study, IELTS is a must have certification and a good IELTS score would help you in your application. That’s why you need to take the help of a good training institute.
