But, today’s scenario demands a total control on English, maybe this has become the main reason behind many English Speaking Institute in Mumbai has made their place. We first need to build up our base vocabulary in order to further expand the English with the help of English Learning Course. Here we shall talk about the tricks and ways in which we can improve our vocabulary.

Extensive reading-

it is a common habit that after leaving school and college, we do not have time for books. Instead, if we want to continue our learning of new words and do not want to lose our old vocabulary, we need to maintain our habit of reading. Even for students, it is a must that they read any fictional or nonfictional novel such as The Famous Five, Harry Potter series etc. These shall provide them with new words and phrases which they will probably not find in their textbooks. Reading newspapers early in the morning is a very good habit.

Writing-

Writing in your style can also help you with your English. There is no harm in keeping an original style along with a great command over vocabulary. Try to use the words learned while reading, in your own sentences.

Looking up any word you are not familiar with–

It is a very sane practice to keep a dictionary beside you while reading. You can look up in a dictionary any word you want to know the meaning of. This way, you are learning new words by mentally noting these words in your brain.

Using a thesaurus-

While you are writing a piece, it is very common to run out of proper adjectives and synonyms, this is where a thesaurus can help a lot. You can find the word you were trying to express by using a phrase to describe it. If you do not have a thesaurus you need not worry. In this digital age, everything is available online. There dozens of online thesaurus available wherein you can type the phrase to get the nearest possible word for it. Thesaurus help in finding synonymous words and one-word substitutions for many words. You can even download apps for it.

Keeping a notebook/journal /flashcards-

while reading and referring to the dictionary and thesaurus, you can make notes in these for long-term retention. If you stick these words to places like your door, the refrigerator, your mirror then you are likely to see these words often you shall have these always in your subconscious mind.

Play word games–

Learning becomes fun when one it happens through the medium of games. Solving crossword puzzles, Scrabble, Boggle, cranium etc. can help a lot in learning new words. Always keep such games at your breakfast table and engage yourself in these rather than wasting time on your cell phone.

Setting your goal–

every great fete is achieved only after smaller conquests. Make smaller targets, for example learning 20 new words in a week. Try to use these words in the coming week at your English speaking classes and make sure you do not force them out on someone. Keep the usage of these words to their practicality.
