5 Tips for IELTS

5 Tips for IELTS

We live in an English dominated society. Even though we are Indians and have our own languages we need to give the special amount of importance to learning English. This is mainly because of the wide use and influence of this language all around the globe and also because of the dominance of the English speaking countries like The USA, UK etc. That is why tests like IELTS was designed. This is used as a measure of your English skills. Also, for immigration to such countries you need to have an IELTS test taken. It is a test taken by many non-native English speakers at 1100 centers all around the globe.

Here we shall concern ourselves with how to deal with this exam and some tips to go about it.

  • Doing things in an orderly manner – In any test, time management is an issue. In IELTS in the reading section, you need to be cautious about time. But going in an orderly manner can save a lot of your time. It is said that matching takes a lot of time in IELTS, but if done by paragraph order it shall take less time as you read one paragraph only once. Going in the order of heading is not wise. Going by the paragraph ensures you read less number of times and saves your time.
  • comprehending the structure to your benefit – one of the best ways to go about is not to check your answers at the end of the first section when the recording asks you to do so, instead you should go to the second section straight to start reading the questions. The answers can be rechecked at the end of the test when you have the extra time of 10 minutes as transfer time. If you be strategic in planning your test you can very well use the test structure to your benefit.
  • Judging yourself – it is very important that you know where you lag behind. Hence you should try to solve practice test at home in real exam conditions to know your weaknesses and strength. Once you know where you were not able to perform, focus on it. This way you can perform a lot better.
  • Preparing for the speaking test – this test shall be taken by an examiner where he or she may ask you about you and your life. This should be prepared beforehand and should use good English and concise matter. Second, comes the main topic mentioned in the paper, you need to speak on the topic for some time. For this what you can do is to make some notes for keeping your points organized. While speaking keep a direct eye contact. This can be practiced by speaking on a random topic every day in front of a mirror.
  • Keeping cool before the test – most of us to make the test harder just by thinking about it. It is very crucial that you go to give this short duration test with a cool mind otherwise you are bound to falter even on the easiest of questions.
